You could, of course, have an advisor who is very well-regarded (notice that I am not saying well-known) in the field and/or has worked at the Tier I institution where you are applying. This could put you in the radar and perhaps (depending on how well your advisor is regarded) even help you land a job talk (everything else being equal). But it is a big if. Notice that your advisor having worked at a Tier I institution could also work against you.
