My 17 year old sister and I had the Birthday party for my brother. He understood nothing and was pretty upset that his birthday present was a 4th sister. My Dad called that night. News was bad everywhere. They were operating in Albany the next day. The baby was just clinging on. Later that night my sister said “Dad said to wear your purple dress to school tomorrow”. That was my Sunday dress Unheard of!!!! My sister said “ Don’t let DAd down” so I wore it. I also took a book of poetry and my warmest coat as I planned to walk to the hospital to read poetry to the baby.
