Then a few come in from students who think that there is some value to finishing fast. They usually make numerous mistakes. Some are very bright, but they have a very performative notion of intelligence: I’m successful because people see that I’m succeeding because I answer all questions in class until I’m told to stop, and I turn in my tests fast, and I speak of how little effort I had to put in.
