The disproportionate number of kids at this school who were labeled “special ed” was off the charts. You could be in a class where nearly every boy in the room was supposedly “special ed”—they would sit there and blow off the entire lesson, cause trouble and disrupt class, then take somebody else’s class notes and go trotting off to the resource room and copy everything. I once had a kid who was on the special ed list and on the gifted and talented list at the same time!!!! We privately wondered how long before the “straight A” students in the top ten would be comprised of several special ed students, graduating with honors.
