Unfortunately, you have made the classic mistake that so many people make at work. You think that working hard is a means to getting promoted. It isn’t. When all you do is work hard, you show yourself to always be at the operational level. People will rely on you to deliver whilst they are building relationships within the organisation, showcasing their expertise and planning where they are moving to next. In the meantime, no one knows what you are doing or achieving over and above the norm because you probably look like the job is running you. Sounds harsh I know but this is the truth about work that people don’t tell you until it’s often too late.
