I once had a substandard employee who had four young boys. We worked in a very small town and even though she wasn’t accurate, nor timely, most folks didn’t want her children to go hungry so they didn’t complain much because doing so would get her fired. She was assigned the tasks she could handle and her hours were adjusted so the business could afford it if she was 15 minutes late. I had many discussions with her about her focus and need to set an alarm clock. We figured out what she could handle and gave her a limited schedule.
