I was about forty miles short of the exit to the motel where I was going to spend the night and given that I was driving through the middle of nowhere I decided to go for it and try to make it to the motel. As I drove the lights got dimmer so I decided to shut off the AC to save some juice. After a few miles more I noticed that the speedometer was showing a much slower speed than I was actually going because the battery was on its last legs. I made it to the exit and from there could see the lighted sign for the motel and relieved I thought I had made it. No such luck.
